Just shipped from Bourgeois – another “Banjo Killer”
(NEW) We are happy to present another outstanding guitar from our friend Dana Bourgeois.
We’re known here at Moe’s House of Mahogany as lovers of all things mahogany, we find it to be the perfect blend of woodiness, sparkle, and warmth. It is *perfect* then, to provide the backstop for one of Dana’s highly prized BANJO KILLER models – so let’s get crackin’ and kill us some banjers!
Mr. Bourgeois takes his highly regarded slope D model, selects special stiff BEARCLAW FIGURED SPRUCE for the top and then employs special double-scalloped Adirondack spruce braces and unique banjo-killer top voicing for this model. Mr. Bourgeois is able to build a guitar that has the oomph, power, volume and clear bass response that can make banjos nervous.
While it can kill banjos, this guitar is no bazooka. It is a refined and articulate large guitar with commanding presence and w-i-d-e dynamic range. It is a strummer, a flat picker, and a great country blues guitar. More “old-timey” perhaps than a square shouldered dread, it has a country blues vibe more than a straight bluegrass vibe, if that makes any sense at all. Hey, I’m talking to banjo players here!
1 and 3/4″ bone nut and 2 and 5/16″ string spacing at the compensated bone saddle. The other special features of this guitar include nicely figured bear claw Sitka spruce, wood rosette, multi-color herringbone back-strip, tiny MOP dots, figured Honduran mahogany back and sides, and Ziricote rosewood for the peg head veneer, fretboard and belly bridge. Dana chooses to use ebony bridge pins and ivoroid tuner knobs on this model.
Note: Thanks to Ryan @ Bourgeois for the great photos!
